Bible Verses for Anxiety: Finding Peace When Fear Creeps In

If there’s one feeling that’s all too familiar in my life it’s the feeling of being paralyzed by anxiety.

The kind that keeps you up at night, makes your thoughts spiral, and convinces you that you’re not enough.

I’ve had moments where I felt like I was suffocating under the weight of worry, where no amount of deep breaths or self-talk could quiet the noise in my mind.

For years, anxiety was a familiar companion of mine. It showed up when I least expected it, whispered lies about my worth, and made me doubt everything I knew to be true.

But you know what I’ve learned? The only thing that has ever truly calmed my anxious heart isn’t a perfectly color-coded planner, a meticulously crafted to-do list, or a desperate attempt to control everything around me (although let’s be real, I’ve tried). It’s God’s Word.

Being able to open to a Bible verse when anxious sometimes help me center my spiraling thoughts and focus on something other than what’s causing me panic in the moment.

Scripture has a way of grounding me when nothing else can. When my mind is running a mile a minute, His truth reminds me that I am held, I am seen, and I am never alone.

So if you’re in a season where anxiety feels overwhelming, I want to share some Bible verses for anxiety that have brought me peace when I’ve needed it the most.

10 Bible Verses for Anxiety

1. Philippians 4:6-7 (CSB)

“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

This is the ultimate “Take a deep breath and give it to God” verse. Anxiety thrives on control, but when we surrender our worries through prayer, God replaces them with His peace; one that doesn’t always make sense but is oh-so-powerful.

2. Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Anyone else a professional at stressing about everything that could go wrong in the future? Jesus reminds us that today is enough, and we don’t have to carry the weight of tomorrow before it even happens.

3. Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

There is no “unless you really messed up this time” in this verse. God is always with you, even when you feel unworthy, even when you’re overwhelmed, even when you think you’re handling life terribly. His strength is holding you up.

4. 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

I love this verse because it’s not a suggestion, it’s an invitation. God isn’t waiting for you to figure it out on your own; He wants your worries. He cares about your anxious thoughts, and He wants to carry them for you.

5. John 14:27 (CSB)

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.”

The world offers temporary relief; distractions, self-help books, probably another Target run. But Jesus offers something better; a lasting, unshakeable peace that holds steady even when everything else feels like it’s falling apart.

6. Psalm 94:19 (NIV)

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”

I don’t know about you, but sometimes my anxiety feels too heavy to just “let go.” This verse reminds me that God’s comfort is greater than my fears, and that even in my anxiousness, He can still bring joy.

7. 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Anxiety tells us we are weak, incapable, and out of control. But God says He has given us power, love, and a sound mind. Which voice are we going to believe?

8. Psalm 46:1 (NIV)

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Anxiety makes us feel like we have to figure it all out alone. But God isn’t distant, He is right here, right now, ready to be your strength when you have none left.

9. Proverbs 3:5-6 (CSB)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.”

This one is hard for my fellow overthinkers. We want answers, certainty, and maybe even an itemized plan from God. But He calls us to trust Him, especially when we don’t understand the “why” or the “how.”

10. Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

If there is one truth I want you to cling to when anxiety tries to steal your peace, it’s this: nothing can separate you from God’s love. Not your fears. Not your failures. Not even your worst-case scenarios. He is with you, always.

Final Thoughts: You’re Not Alone in This

I wish I could say that I never feel anxious anymore, but I’d be lying. Life still throws unexpected curveballs, and sometimes, my mind still races faster than I can keep up.

But I’ve learned that I don’t have to fight anxiety alone. I don’t have to let it define me. I don’t have to listen to the lies that tell me I’m stuck.

Because every time fear whispers, God’s truth speaks louder.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed today, I hope you’ll grab onto these verses and let them breathe peace into your anxious heart. And if you need a reminder, you are not alone in this. God is with you, fighting for you, and offering you a peace that the world cannot take away.
