Love is patient.
Do you know how many times I’ve tried to remind myself of that very thing as I’m repeating myself for the 47th time while my son argues with me and doesn’t listen yet again?
It is not easily angered.
Ay yi yi. I remember these things. Usually after I’ve already lost my cool, raised my voice (and my blood pressure), taken away a phone or other privilege, and said some things that I’ll regret later as I cry into my ice cream after bedtime feeling like a bad mom.
When you’re raising a strong-willed child, your patience gets tried. A lot. And if you’re not careful, the concept of “pick your battles” will get hit by a baseball bat clear out the window, over the fence, across the street, and roll down into the creek.. because everything has become a battle and all of a sudden you’re that mom. The nagging mom.
(Sigh).
Parenting is not for the faint of heart. It’s hard.
So if you’re finding yourself in a trying season of motherhood just like I am – I hope some of these verses will serve as reminders to you: reminders that your hard work will pay off. Reminders that God made you these infuriating little creature’s mom for a reason. Reminders that God is with you, even on the days that it’s hard, the days where you need reinforcement, or the days you need a gentle reminder to take it down a notch.
He’s even with you on the days you lose your cool and totally fail.
