One of the most important gifts that anyone will ever receive from a fellow human being is the ability to see them the way Christ sees them.

As a church, we are gifted the opportunity to serve and show love to one another.

Our first introduction to the kingdom of God is often through other people, mine included, as God uses vessels to bring people to His kingdom.

That was the main purpose of God putting us on this earth: to spread His gospel.

The beauty of a Christian lifestyle is that it was never meant to be experienced alone.

It is so much easier, as believers, to experience the goodness of God together; to grow in spiritual maturity and help each other heal from the past traumas through the blood of the Lamb.

The Biblical Model of Community

Jesus and the Importance of Friendship

The Bible has many scriptures that emphasize the importance of friendship.

Jesus Himself had a group of friends to set an example of the value of community.

Though He didn’t need them, He came to model how believers should live.

He showed that, in order for purpose to unfold, we need a community with different skills and callings.

Each of us has been given a special role to help grow and advance His kingdom according to the gifting He placed in us.

Unity in Diversity: The Body of Christ

In Romans 12:4–5, we are told how each individual has a different function in the body of Christ. No function is ever too small in God’s eyes.

In the Gospels, Jesus chose apostles from various backgrounds, each with unique gifts to contribute to the mission.

It is important for believers not to look down on others but to see each person as a valuable addition to God’s family; an important vessel that He saw important in His eyes to be respected and cherished by the body of believers.

Compassion and Grace in Community Living: Empathy Over Judgement

Compassion for one another is essential.

We all come from different walks of life and face various challenges.

It’s important for us to adopt the heart of Jesus when supporting each other in tough times.

Instead of placing others in our shoes, we must step into theirs, just as Jesus did.

Allow your heart to break, and even more, offer the heart and mind of Christ to the lost, remembering that we were once like them. It is only by grace through faith that we are here, so how could we not want that for others?

Embracing Each Other’s Past with Grace

Every believer has a past that cannot be changed.

In community, we must embrace one another without judgment.

We too are sinners saved by grace. The story of the adulterous woman in John 8 reminds us that Jesus, though sinless, did not condemn her, He extended mercy when she needed it most.

A true act of showing us how we should live our daily lives as His disciples.

While we are saved by His blood and understand its power, not everyone is ready to receive it, and only God knows why.

That should not stop us from preaching the gospel, but our approach should be humble.

Condescending attitudes can drive people away. Instead, we should share Christ’s love, not merely the dos and don’ts of Christianity.

It is His love that saves us all.

Sharing Gifts and Serving Others: The Purpose of Spiritual Gifts

Sharing information and gifts is vital in the Christian community.

Each believer has a unique gift, be it prophecy, worship, preaching, or otherwise.

These gifts are meant to serve others and expand God’s kingdom.

If we keep them to ourselves, we miss the point of our calling and sadly, forfeit to be part of the vessels that are meant to bring others to His everlasting kingdom.

Living for God’s Glory, Not Human Applause

There are many ways to serve in accordance with God’s will.

It’s crucial to remember that it’s not about us but about glorifying Him.

Reward comes from God, not man. While material blessings may come, the heart behind our service matters most.

Because this life is temporary, eternity should be our goal and preparation as we serve here on earth, our focus should be to store our treasures in heaven rather than earth.

A wise believer understands that we are vessels meant for God’s use.

Being a living sacrifice means offering more than material help, it means touching lives and drawing people to Christ.

Not just for self gain but for the ultimate goal that we defeat the plans of the enemy over God’s children.

Staying Connected to the Source

Fruitfulness comes from Christ. Gaining wisdom in God helps us navigate life and share the gospel effectively.

When we are rooted in His word and presence, we begin to see people as Jesus does and commit ourselves to bringing others into His presence.

The Joy of Community and Unity in Christ

Lastly, we must learn to find joy in everything.

The joy of the Lord strengthens us to live joyfully with others and endure tough seasons together.

The world is full of trials, but it’s easier to walk this journey with like-minded believers who share our values and want the best for us.

As people who think otherwise may delay us from our purpose and even more sadly make us miss our true purpose of why we were placed here on earth

There is power in community.

The enemy may deceive us into thinking we can or should walk alone, but in truth, no one is better than another, we are all unique and chosen by God.

When we uplift one another, recognize our distinct roles, and Honor each other’s gifts, we find peace and comfort in the knowledge that Christ cares for us all.

I hope you find freedom from isolation today of thinking that you don’t need the body of Christ to fully have an effect on earth.

We were created to be in community, as a lot of effective and significant work in the body of Christ is done in numbers rather alone.

So today I encourage you to break the spirt of self dependence and free yourself from past hurts that may have forced this decision on you.

Remember, you are an important vessel that God wants to use, and even more importantly you are His child who He loves dearly and will be willing to die for all over again if He had to.

  1. Thank you for the great reminder. We aren’t meant to live in isolation. God made us to live in community. Two (or more) are better than one.
