Glorified Bodies and Heavenly Citizenship
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
Philippians 3:20-21 NIV
Are you feeling it today? Physically tired, emotionally drained, and just hurting. Done with the pain?
Then let me encourage you to hang on. You’re about to be glorified.
After Jesus’ amazing encounter with two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-32), we get a glimpse at what God has in store for us in the way of our new and glorified bodies.
“Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.”
Luke 24:13-16 NIV
Jesus’ resurrected body was real, tangible, and capable of ingesting food (Luke 24:30). He could appear and disappear (Luke 24:31), and He passed through solid objects such as walls and doors (John 20:19).
He also traveled great distances in a moment, for by the time these two disciples returned to Jerusalem, Christ had already appeared to Peter.
We have that exciting promise, that someday, we too will have glorified bodies. Let’s have a shout of praise for that! Both 1 Corinthians 15 and Philippians 3 assure us of our new bodies to come:
“So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.”
1 Corinthians 15:42-45 NIV
So be encouraged, blessed believer. And remember that when you are hurting and tired of it all, our gracious Heavenly Father has yet again one more amazing thing in store for you; a glorified body. Amen.
