Finding Strength When You’re Hanging on by a Thread
Have you ever seen that cat poster that’s states: Hang in there? – and a cute, cuddly kitten is holding firmly onto a tree branch?
Occasionally, I sense myself in that same situation. Only instead of holding firmly to a branch, I’m hanging on by a thread.
Maybe you are there now? I believe we have all been there at some time.
As a hobby, I am a crafter/sewer. Artfully creating rope fabric baskets.
I’ll sometimes say to my husband that I’m going to “cut threads,” – which he finds rather humorous. Technically speaking I’ll be cutting fabric, but the saying “cutting threads” sticks with me a little differently.
Choosing the right fabric and threads is extremely important in the process. The thread is what holds your fabric pieces together, creating neat and strong stitches. However, not all threads and fabrics are created equally.
The good thing is that in God’s eyes we are all created equally. It doesn’t matter what type of thread or fabric we are. We are all uniquely created and designed by God’s hand, and we all have access to His Word. He is waiting to help us with whatever our needs are.
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 NLT
God knew us before we were even being knitted in our mother’s womb. He knows us inside and out. He sees our hurts and is ready and more than able to come to our aid.
Recently, my son and his family had to put their dog down at 13 years. They told their two sons after school that he had passed away. These boys are four and seven, too young to have told them any other way.
My middle son was talking with the seven year old on the phone after the dog had passed. My grandson didn’t quite understand that the dog was there in the family prior to him being there. My son said, “yes you weren’t even thought of yet.”
I told my son later the phone when he was relaying the story to me, “Oh yes, he was! God had him all planned out already.” Isn’t our God Amazing?
I believe at a certain time in my life that God must have a strong thread to pull me up by. I think He has a strong rope in my case!
I think of the times He has pulled me up from sadness, depression, anxiety, lonesomeness, the list goes on and on. Where are you on this list?
Sometimes, it all just seems too vast to even grasp. Too out of reach to even hold on to that thread. If you are in any of these times reach out to the Lord. God’s grasp is holding onto us. Take His hand and snuggle up to Him. Dive into His Word.
I read recently “Snuggle in God’s arms. When you are hurting, when you feel lonely, left out. let Him cradle you, comfort you, reassure you of His all-sufficient power and love.” ~ Kay Arthur
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not be weary; they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 NKJ
This verse from Isaiah is a reminder of how God will reign you in in His Strength. He will carry us when we can’t even carry ourselves. Weary, heavy burden reach up off that branch, off the thread to our mighty God. He’s got you!
Twisting the fabric around the rope. Making it beautiful, sewing, creating, and weaving it all together. Just like the Lord is weaving us together to create us into the beautiful creation he wants us to be.
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for our good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (NKJ)
One day it’s one step forward and two steps back. Tired, sad, depression coming on. No. I wish I could run away or fly away like a dove.
I think of the time I spend in the morning with My Lord, and it hit me: This is my runaway or fly away time with our Almighty God.
And when I breathe in His Word, I ask for forgiveness of the selfish pitiful me. This is the time for you Lord to take me in. To let me step forward again with you moment by moment.
The best advice I can give anyone is to give part of your morning to the Lord. Start with a daily reading and build up from there. You will be amazed!
Psalm 27:14 “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently on the Lord.”
Oh sometimes, waiting is just too hard. Not coming quickly enough. Just Peace and Joy in that moment.
Entwine me with you Lord. I do not want to be tangled and twisted into knots. Twist the tiny piece of thread I am holding on to and weave it together with your everlasting love.
I want to be intertwined with you that nothing can break that connection. Are you feeling entwined? Hold on to thread, branch, or rope a little longer. It will not break when Almighty God is holding us up.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. 3 are even better, or a triple braided chord is not easily broken.” (NLT)
Reach out to a confident friend to pray with you.
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (NKJ)
God is always perfecting us into whom He wants us to be. Through all the trails, suffering and hardships come a more perfected you: God’s unique masterpiece.
Joy and Peace are around the corner. They are within our grasp! Reach up for Him!
