Let’s just call it what it is: me and confidence? We’ve had a complicated relationship. Like, if confidence were a person, we’d have definitely broken up a few times. Blocked each other. Then awkwardly re-followed again six months later. Stalked a few photos and accidentally clicked like on one or two, just to scream in embarrassment and re-block.

For most of my life, I’ve chased confidence like it was some magical golden ticket. I’ve peeled back every metaphorical chocolate wrapper thinking maybe this is the one, only to come up short. Again. And again. (I’m basically Charlie without the factory tour.)

And the irony of it all? (Cue Alanis Morissette. If you’re offended by that reference, sorry, but I’m keeping it.) I’ve been a wellness coach for years. My literal job has been to help women find confidence.

And yet… here I am. Still learning how to find it myself some days.

What I have learned, though is this:

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something you build.

It’s not just sitting there like a perfectly wrapped present waiting for you to wake up one day and open it. It’s more like a muscle; one you have to stretch, work, and sometimes cry through because you’ve forgotten how sore it makes you when you’re just starting out.

Most of us lose our confidence before we even know what it is. Somewhere between the world telling us who we’re not and us starting to believe it, that strong sense of worth we were born with gets a little shaky.

But here’s the thing I’m clinging to these days, especially now, as I’m navigating a whole new level of body image and healing after my hysterectomy: Jesus is where real confidence lives.

Not in the way your jeans fit.
Not in your ability to always say the right thing.
Not in how many people clap when you post something inspiring.

Confidence rooted in Christ is the kind that actually lasts. The kind that isn’t dependent on outside validation, but on the truth of who He says you are.

And I don’t know about you, but that is something I can work on building. One day, one prayer, one shaky moment at a time.

So how do we actually start building that confidence muscle?

Because let’s be honest, just telling yourself “I’m confident” in the mirror when you’re having a full-blown identity crisis doesn’t always do the trick. (I know Mel Robbins swears by a daily mirror high-five but I’m sorry. It just doesn’t work for me. I need more).

One thing that’s been a game-changer for me (and something I swear by in my morning routine) is how I start my day.

Every morning, you’ll find me parked at my kitchen counter, hair in a bun that’s seen better days, coffee in hand, Bible cracked open, and a personal development book on deck. It’s become this sacred little rhythm that helps me reset before the world has a chance to throw its noise at me.

It’s the slow, intentional space where I remind myself of who I am in Christ before I start scrolling, before I start checking emails, and definitely before I start spiraling over something dumb like comparing my clutter-filled dining table to someone else’s curated highlight reel.

And let me just say, I am so excited to add these two books to my morning lineup:

1. Woman Evolve by Sarah Jakes Roberts

Let’s start with this gem. I’ve had my eye on Woman Evolve for a while now after a friend recommended it to me because Sarah Jakes Roberts? She gets it. This book takes a fresh look at the story of Eve (yes, that Eve), and how we’ve carried around so much guilt and shame when what God actually wants to offer us is freedom, purpose, and a fresh start.

If you’ve ever felt like your past disqualified you, or like your mistakes defined you, this book is about to throw that lie straight out the window and replace it with truth. Real, powerful, liberating truth.

2. Power Moves by Sarah Jakes Roberts

Okay, if Woman Evolve is your wake-up call, Power Moves is the action plan. This is her latest book and it’s all about stepping boldly into the power God has already placed inside of you. Not the pretend “fake it till you make it” power, but the kind of power that’s rooted in identity, calling, and Kingdom purpose.

This one is about doing the hard things that scare you a little, but doing them anyway because you trust the One who’s leading you.

Both of these just arrived on my doorstep and I’ll be diving into one of them as soon as I finish the current book in my stack!

If you’ve been looking for something new to add to your quiet time, or you just need a voice that speaks boldly, biblically, and with serious encouragement, these are it, friend.

And if you’re curious about how I structure my mornings, you can check out this post all about my morning routine (shameless plug, but it’s actually one of my favorite rhythms I’ve ever built into my day).

So whether you’re in a season of learning to love the girl in the mirror again, healing from past hurts, or just trying to feel a little more like yourself in a world that’s constantly trying to tell you who to be, I want you to know this:

You are not behind.
You are not disqualified.
And you are definitely not too much or not enough.

You’re a work in progress, fully loved by a God who isn’t asking for your perfection, He’s just asking for your presence.

And that confidence you’re chasing?

It’s already in you.

You just need to water it with truth, time, and maybe a good book or two.

So if you’re ready to start building that confidence muscle, grab your coffee, your Bible, and one of these books, and start your own sacred little morning routine with me. I’ll be over here doing the same thing, probably in my comfiest sweatpants and a messy bun, notating my way through the pages like the confident-in-Christ woman I’m becoming.

And if you’ve read either of these, or you’re planning to, comment below. I’d love to know your thoughts or even read through them together!

If this resonated with you, send this post to a friend who needs the reminder: she’s already worthy.
