“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

John 15:15 NIV

Here on Earth, having friends is important and part of our social growth. We put great effort into gaining and faithfully maintaining quality relationships.

We work hard to find our crew who will ride through the highs and lows of life with us and never leave our side.

Sometimes, we may go through seasons in life when we feel like we have no friends.

That is another normal part of our experience as humans.

When we’re in isolation, we can be tempted to lose hope and stop trying to build friendships. This can also lead us into depression because God created us to be in relationship with each other.

But it’s vital to remember that God wants us to be in a relationship with Him first and foremost because He is, and always will be, our most faithful friend.

Did you know that the Creator of the Universe wants to be your friend?

We can trust God with all our heart and soul. He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8).

His love for us endures forever (Psalm 136).

He wants us to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Sin separates us from our Maker (Romans 6:23), but God has done everything necessary to reconcile us to Him (John 3:16-17).

All we need to do is believe in Him, accept Jesus Christ’s free gift of salvation, and follow Him throughout our life on Earth, all the way into Heaven.

Not only does God want to be our friend, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior and best friend forever.

He also gave us The Holy Spirit to be our Helper. It is a win-win situation when we believe in God and live for Him because He gives us everything we need to survive this earthly existence.

Additionally, He promises eternal life to all of His faithful followers so that death will never sever our relationship with God.

It’s helpful to remember that there is life in Heaven after death where we will be reunited with our loved ones (because death is not permanent for believers), this time in immortal, perfectly healthy bodies that last forever.

Isn’t it good to know that with God we have a friend forever?

When I learned to cultivate my friendship with my Maker, it helped me have a healthier perspective on friendship.

I realized that Jesus is my forever friend. He’s faithful and true. He’ll never leave me, and He’ll never betray my trust. He is the most trustworthy friend we can ever have, and He loves us with all of His Heart.

When I feel lonely, I reach out to Him and He comforts me. Over the years, God has also orchestrated friendships for me with wonderful people who genuinely love Jesus and truly care about me. He wants to do the same for you!

There is a song by Israel Houghton and New Breed called “Friend of God”. You can listen to it here.

Know how much God loves you. Will you, if you have not already, accept His friendship? He is waiting for you with open arms and a big heart of agape love.
