What Has You Worried Today? Do Not Worry About Tomorrow, For Tomorrow Will Worry About Itself
What keeps you up at night? What is that pressing issue that finds its way to your mind as soon as your eyes open in the morning?
It may take a few minutes for you to fully remember, but those minutes are spent searching for why you’re feeling that uncomfortable tug on your heart.
I doubt if any person reading this is immune to worry. I’m sure some of us worry more than others, but all of us have those areas in our life that bring us more than a fleeting glimpse of concern.
Personally, when I’m worried, I want to talk about it.
Over the years, my husband has heard more than his fair share about my worries. And his answer is always the same. It always mirrors the advice Jesus gave in the Bible.
Matthew 6:34 tells us, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
My husband’s advice is always a combination of two things:
1. What exactly can YOU do to fix this?
2. Trust the Lord because He has a plan.
The truth is I can’t do a single thing to fix any of the things that worry me.
I might have a certain degree of influence over the situation, but never am I 100% in control.
And, just like Jesus was telling everyone through His Sermon on the Mount, the only thing required of me is to trust God.
Whatever is taking up far too much space in your mind today is not a surprise to God.
Not only does He know how the situation is going to play out, but He alone understands the reason why.
Jesus told us that today is enough.
I understand that He was telling us that today has enough worries without us borrowing from the future.
I believe He also was telling us that today is literally all we have. None of us know what, if anything, tomorrow holds for us.
I woke up this morning with a heavy heart, one filled with worry about what might happen in the future.
It is a legitimate question because, in this situation, I’m more than a little in the dark.
My husband, once again, explained to me how, no matter what the outcome, God has a plan.
How wonderful that His plan includes me. He will hold me close no matter the outcome of my worry.
How wonderful that He nudges me to enjoy today. I believe there is more joy in every day than any worry we may be carrying around.
We just have to lay our worries at His feet to make room for the joy He wants to fill our lives with.
We serve a wonderful and compassionate Savior.
